Sarah Jane Pell
Artist Dr. Sarah Jane Pell is passionate about bending horizons. Adj. Associate Professor (Research), in the Faculty of Engineering, Engineering Office of the Dean, and the Faculty of Art, Design & Architecture, at Monash University, Pell collaborates with the Monash Immersive Visualisation Platform (MIVP) to produce new immersive media expanding human performance and cultural expression. An experienced commercial diver and underwater performance artist, Pell now logs hours as a commercial spaceflight candidate, spacesuit validation test pilot, and analogue astronaut, designing interdisciplinary simulation scenarios, and research interactivity for “performing astronautics”. She is Vice-Chair of the International Astronautical Federation Technical Team for the Cultural Utilisation of Space [ITACCUS], former Chair of the European Space Agency Topical Team Art & Science [ETTAS], collaborator of the Exertion Games Lab, and SymbioticA: the art and biotechnology lab, and advisor to Sparks&Honey NY and the Maritime Union of Australia. Prestigious Awards include Australia Council Fellow, TED Fellow, and Gifted Citizen (Hon. Mention).
